The Great Recession underscored to investors that the student housing sector dynamic differs from the conventional market. Student product came to be viewed as a hedge during economic downturns.
In a new report, Sarah Simmons of Axiometrics, a RealPage company, identifies key trends in the student market to gauge its resiliency.
“During the last recession, more people saw returning to school to earn additional qualifications as an attractive alternative to struggling to find work in the dismal job market,” Simmons writes. “At the same time, demand for student housing increased, and the performance of the student housing industry rose.”
