Criminal Background Check
RealPage was the first applicant screening company to provide online criminal records to apartment managers. Today, RealPage maintains the industry’s largest online criminal and sex offender database, which covers more than 80 percent of the U.S. population and is available instantaneously in more than 500 jurisdictions in 47 states. Fully-integrated manual court searches are conducted in areas where electronic criminal data is not available.
"Follow Me" Criminal Search
 Only RealPage can offer expanded geographic search areas utilizing unique “follow-me” logic which greatly reduces the likelihood of false positive matches. Previous addresses and name variations identified from the applicant’s credit report are also checked. This search includes state, county, and local records, as well as sex offender registries. The “Metro Criminal Search” feature broadens the search when addresses that border other states are detected.
Sex Offender Search
The applicant is checked against a database of registered sex offenders from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Guam. This database usually includes a photograph of the offender and a description of previous offenses.
Terrorist Search
Apartment security has always been taken very seriously by property managers, and terrorist advisories over the years have only added to the tasks faced by property managers to guard against potentially dangerous and violent residents. Every screen includes a terrorist and most wanted fugitive warrant search of 12 government databases including, the FBI, Interpol, the U.S. Customs Service, the Secret Service, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
In most cases, if there is a match against one of these databases, a picture of the terrorist or fugitive is provided on the screen or in the report to help provide positive identification.
Criminal Classification
The Criminal Classification feature automatically sorts acceptable and unacceptable criminal records into one or more of 17 different categories such as, violent crimes, drug-related crimes, fraud crimes, and non-violent crimes. The screening setting will automatically accept or decline an applicant with a past criminal record based on the criminal category.
