A typical day for many celebrities includes a trip to the spa and a limo ride to dinner at a hip restaurant. Well you don’t have to read Star Magazine and imagine what that would be like any longer! You could win a relaxing spa trip and the ultimate Dallas culinary adventure when you register for the 2009 RealPage User Conference.
You'll start with a trip to the luxurious Verandah Club and Spa. Then a town car will whisk you around town, stopping first at the legendary Trader Vic's, known for its warm, relaxing Hawaiian decor and exotic cocktails. From there, you'll enjoy the unique experience of Fogo de Chao Brazilian Steakhouse, which has won countless awards for its mouth-watering cuisine. You'll wind down the evening at Victory Tavern, located in downtown's fashionable new Victory Park (there's a good chance you'll spot a celebrity sports player or recording artist who's just wrapped up a concert.) And in true celebrity fashion, this memorable evening will be captured on film so you can relive this night to remember. Smile for the "Paparazzi!"
You have to be registered for the User Conference with your hotel room booked to be eligible. We'll be drawing for the winner on June 1. Good luck!

Kristy SimonetteThe user group makes a difference. So if you want to have a say in what the RealPage suite of products offers to you as a company and a user, you should get involved because you do have a voice and we do make a difference.
Kristy Simonette, Vice President—Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, Camden Properties Trust, and Chairperson of the RealPage User Group

Customer satisfaction is an imperative at RealPage. One of the ways in which we achieve customer satisfaction is also the simplest: it’s all about listening to our customers and providing a forum for discussion. We succeed in creating industry-leading solutions because we listen to our customers. We’ve learned that their input is the most valuable asset we have. Our RealPage User Group is a prime example of that. It is made up of subcommittees—headed by customers—that determine the most critical needs of the general user community. Based on their input, new features and functionality are put into our products. This open dialogue with customers has allowed us to immediately address new concerns and continually update our products to offer the best tools for streamlining business processes.
If you want to learn more about the RealPage User Group and how to make your voice heard, be sure to attend the User Group Open Forum on Monday, July 13, from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. At the open forum, you’ll be introduced to the members of the steering committees and learn the results of the Spring 2009 Product Vote.
So come to the user conference and learn how you can make a difference. You truly have a voice and the RealPage User Group is the best way to make it heard.

Save More When You Spend

By: Karen Dodge On: 04/15/2009 12:08:47

This year's conference is all about strategies to maximize revenue and reduce expenses, and there are several sessions on spend management planned.  They feature the OpsTechnology solution and will cover topics such as, implementing a purchasing program, expense controls, and centralizing accounts payables.

We invited Sukhi Singh, the President of OpsTechnology, to give us a quick preview on the just some of the savings and efficiencies to be gained from an automated spend management system.  You can learn more during his sessions at the conference.

It's easy to feel defeated from the constant barrage of negativity about the economy. But the fact is, there are steps that can be taken to protect your bottom line and maybe even boost it. The simplest way is to just manage what you spend. Sound old-fashioned? Maybe, but today there are very effective methods for automating and controlling spend that can bring about rapid results.

A Spend Management System is a great way to increase visibility, knowledge, and control over the thousands of purchases across your portfolio. It is within the dollars of these transactions that your portfolio can unlock 50 to $60 per unit in savings. And it isn't just for the big guys anymore.

True, the large scale property management firms have been using OpsTechnology for the last nine years and continue to benefit from it. But now, smaller companies can leverage the same system to achieve similar savings in the areas of eProcurement and invoice processing.

For many communities, invoice processing is done onsite and involves lots of paper, postage, and time. And after everything that goes into it, you're often left with frustration, inaccuracies, and late payment fees because the process is so lengthy. Automated invoice processing allows you to centralize the process, eliminate the paper and postage, and approve and process invoices online.

Savings from eProcurement starts with your current purchasing program. Regardless of how large your program is, eProcurement will increase its effectiveness and prevent your staff from wasting time thumbing through paper catalogs and calling suppliers to get quotes. Products and services from your suppliers will be standardized in a single online catalog featuring your approved items at your contract prices. Your purchasing details will be tracked allowing you continue to grow and optimize your program for sustained savings. The OpsTechnology solution leverages more than 500 suppliers, providing opportunity to grow your program rather than managing catalogs and integrations.

Then there's the visibility into spending.  A centralized system provides the ability to identify immediate savings hits, opportunities for improved supplier negotiations, real-time compliance tracking, and accurate budget forecasting.

An integrated, web-based spend management solution provides rapid return from automated spend control, centralized paperless processes, real-time portfolio-wide visibility and online supplier integration. This leaves you real savings and your staff with more time to spend with residents and prospects.

About the Author:  Sukhi Singh is the co-founder and President of OpsTechnology, a wholly-owned subsidiary of RealPage. OpsTechnology is the industrys only web-based spend management system that fully integrates purchasing, payables, and eProcurement.

Look for OpsTechnology sessions on the User Conference Web site to find out more about the spend management sessions offered at the conference.

Insure Your Budget Against Unplanned Hits

By: Karen Dodge On: 04/09/2009 12:44:27

It's no secret that a property and casualty insurance premium is one of the larger expenses for a multifamily community. However, there is a way to reduce this cost and protect your budget from getting hit with below-deductible costs. The most effective way is to control loss and increase your community's per incident deductible by implementing a required renter's insurance program. It may sound complicated, but you're sure to find clarification and simple answers at the interactive session, "Risk Mitigation, Steps to Insuring Success," that's planned for Tuesday morning, July 14. You will get information in simple terms on renter's insurance and how it makes sense now, more than ever, for your community and your residents.

Take Me Out to the Ball Park

By: Michael Cunningham On: 04/06/2009 14:34:51

Ah, spring is in the air in North Texas. We’re having unseasonably cold weather lately—can you believe we have a freeze warning in effect for tonight?—so naturally my thoughts turn towards…baseball.
Today is opening day, as well as the home opener, for the Texas Rangers as they battle the Cleveland Indians. Those fans who dare to skip work to attend the game at the Ballpark in Arlington will be treated to a new sight this year. Just across a parking lot and a field, many North Texas residents will get their first look at this:
The new Dallas Cowboys stadium.
And for many, this will be their only view of the stadium—from the outside. Shoot, I’ve lived in Dallas for nearly 16 years and I’ve never once attended a Cowboys game at Texas Stadium and most likely I will never attend a Cowboys game at the new stadium. And I’m a Cowboys fan.
That’s why I’m psyched about the dinner event at this year’s user conference. All attendees will be among the first ever to not only step inside the complex, but to access areas that most people will never see—such as the Cowboys locker room and even standing on the playing field.
I’m even more excited than before after taking a preview tour. Granted, the stadium is unfinished and drab (concrete, steel, and exposed wires were the motif), but it is still a wonder to behold.
View of the field-level suite. The Cowboys players actually access the field through the suite.
And speaking of wonders, check out the video board.
From the new stadium’s web site: Hanging approximately 90 feet above the field from the roof structure, the innovative video center spans between the 20-yard lines and features four individual boards- two facing the sidelines, 160 feet wide and 72 feet tall, and two facing the end zones, 53 feet wide and 30 feet tall, totaling over 25,000 square feet of display area other in the world, a center-hung video board.
I’m going to leave you with a fun fact about the video board that learned on my tour: The video board costs $40 million. The cost to build Texas Stadium in 1971? $35 million.
I can hardly wait for the next tour in May when I’ll share more amazing photos with you. And then it will be your turn!
